How to obtain a Kansas Good Standing
A Certificate of Good Standing is a document that is used for many business and legal reasons in the state of Kansas. It may be required to show compliance with state laws, to show that you are legally registered to conduct business in the state, or to prove the suspension or dissolution of your company in the past.
To obtain this document, a records request forms must be submitted to the Kansas Secretary of State. The resulting certificate will feature the state seal and authorized signature from the Secretary of State.
It is possible to obtain certified records such as a Certificate of Good Standing document from companies you don't actually own. In fact, you can obtain any on-file records from any company, including a certified collection of original registration forms, articles of formation, amendments, and conversion.

SunDoc is here to expedite your request if you need your Certificate of Good Standing by the next business day.
When Do You Need A Certificate Of Good Standing?
You may need a Certificate of Good Standing if you're involved in a merger or acquisition, or if you're buying a company outright, or selling yours. The Good Standing certification will form part of the legal documentation of the entity.
Typically, applying for a business loan or line of credit will require good standing certification. Tax matters also can require it - note that you can owe taxes and still be in good standing with Kansas, you just can't be out of compliance with any of the tax process. Certain licensing requirements may also ask for good standing certification.
Another frequent need for a Certificate of Good Standing is to register to do business in another state (see how SunDoc Filings can help you with foreign qualification). You will have to determine your full documentation requirements, including expirations. Some states for example require certified status to be less than 30 days old, while some allow 60 days.
Certificate Of Good Standing Or Certificate Of Status?
You may have heard of the Certificate of Good Standing document referred to as a Certificate of Existence or Certificate of Status. All of these documents mean the same thing. In the state of Kansas, it shows that a business is registered to do business in Kansas state, has not been suspended by the state taxing authority, the Franchise Tax Board, and is in compliance with applicable corporate rules and licensing requirements.
How To Get Your Good Standing Certificate
While it is impossible to electronically order a Certificate of Good Standing in the state of Kansas, you can bring your request in personally or send it in by mail. If you request your certificate personally, you must go to the Secretary of State’s office. In this case, you'll pay a fee plus an extra over the counter charge, and you will receive your certificate by the second business day.
On the other hand, mailed requests come with only a $5 charge and generally take 5 to 15 business days. If you need expedited Good Standing Certificates, you can rush your order as well.
